How Parker Knights got their new office online in 24 hours

The situation

Parker Knights, the Newcastle office agency specialists, bought premises of their own. After years of advising landlords and tenants on getting buildings occupied and earning, they had the same problem from the other side of the desk: a building they owned, a team ready to move in, and nothing to work on.

Full fibre was available at the address. The install lead time was not.

What was at stake

An office you cannot work from is an office you are paying for twice, once in the cost of holding it and again in the productivity of a team working somewhere else. For a business that advises clients on exactly this, waiting months for a fixed line was not a serious option.

What Fuse did

  1. Checked the address before recommending anything. We ran the property through the free Fuse Connectivity Checker, which scores any UK address from A to E using Ofcom Connected Nations data. It came back an A, scoring 90 out of 100. Full fibre to the premises was available, and all four major mobile networks showed full strength at the address.
  2. Recommended 5G immediately, with fibre ordered in parallel. The mobile coverage at that address was strong enough to carry the business properly, so there was no reason to sit and wait. We proposed an immediate 5G connection to get Parker Knights working, with the permanent fibre line ordered alongside it and a managed transition when it went live.
  3. Installed and had them live within 24 hours. Specified, supplied, installed and working, in a day.

The result

Parker Knights were operating from their new office within 24 hours of giving us the go ahead, rather than waiting out a fixed-line installation that can run to 20 weeks.

The 5G performed so well that they chose to keep it. What was specified as a bridge became the permanent connection.

"On the leasing side there is an increasing demand for early and reliable connectivity. We get Fuse involved at an early stage of the process and that approach really pays off."

Michael Downey, Managing Director, Parker Knights

The point

Connectivity is not a fixed-line question with a fixed-line answer. It is a question of what a business can actually work on, on the day it needs to work. Sometimes that is fibre, sometimes it is 5G, sometimes it is satellite, and often it is one holding the other up. Fuse is the single partner across all of it, so nobody is left choosing between moving in and being able to operate.
